Where Did the Week Go?

On Monday, I decided that the best way to get into a groove was to take a walk around town, so I did. It was nice.

On Tuesday, I taught my first knitting class at the Finch.  I had a blast.  All of my students were knitting by the time they left.   I can't wait for the next class.  Which is tomorrow!  Yay!

We also spent a lot of time on the porch.

And sometime around Wedensday, THIS happened:

On Thursday, the Brownies painted a giant painting together.

On Friday, our friends arrived from New York, and on Saturday, we took them to the Flower and Garden Festival.

I love festival food.

Daphne had kids to play with all weekend.

And there was pie.  For breakfast.  It was a good visit.

On Sunday, it was back to the festival for corn dogs and award winning crab cakes.

Then Kev went back home, and Daphne passed out fliers for the Finch.

Now, it's Monday again. Another busy (and apparenty very rainy) week ahead.  And a big Art Show this weekend.  I should probably go take a walk around town while the sun is out.  Happy Monday!

Big Easter Weekend

Saturday, we went to the Farmer's Market and came home with things to plant in the garden.

I got my herb garden squared away, and Daph added some decorations.

Then, she made a big sign for the Bunny.

We were all tired, so we took Uncle Jeff downtown for dinner.  LBC has really good shrimp and corn chowder, and the best cheesy sauce ever for fries.

Sunday, we all got our Easter baskets.  Mine was awesome - thanks, Kev!  Then we had Easter Breakfast Tacos, and spent most of the afternoon playing outside.  Kev set up an egg hunt.

And we played baseball and cornhole.

It was fun to have Uncle Jeff here, and sad to send him off (in a surprisingly fancy taxi) to DC.  Looking forward to seeing him for lunch later in the week.

Dinner was grilled cedar plank salmon with couscous and asparagus on the porch.  This springy weather is so great.  I hope it sticks around for a while.  It's cool in the mornings, and warm (but not hot!) in the afternoons, and we can play in the yard (no gnats) and eat on the porch (no mosquitos).  Spring is awesome.

I hope your Easter weekend was a very hoppy one!

Road Trip - Day 8

On Friday, we drove and drove and drove.  Some of us slept.  It was a long trip.

There was some time along the way to rest and climb trees, but mostly, we drove.  I was happy to have Jeff with us.

When we got home, there was a nice colorful sign.

The cherry tree in the back yard was all bloomy, and so were the tulips in the front.

Daphne's big surprise was a new purple room.  Kev was busy while we were gone.

Now the hard part...getting back into a groove.  Starting with about 100 pounds of laundry.  Time to start thinking about the next adventure.

Road Trip - Day 7

Thursday we went to my old elementary school to have lunch with my cousin.  Same school, new building.  They tore down the old building, the one that I was in, a couple years after I left.  It's too bad...it was a cool old school building.  It was probably full of asbestos, though, and lead paint.

The new school has a nice little "cafe" area where visitors can eat with kids so they don't have to go in the cafeteria.  I kinda wish Daphne's school had that.  The cafeteria is so loud.  And kind of stinky.

In the afternoon, we went to the fossil park down by the river.  There were rocks to climb around on and dig in, so Daphne loved it.  She could have stayed there for hours.

In the evening, we met a bunch of people out for dinner at Buckhead, and I had a hot brown.  I don't think you can get hot browns anywhere besides Kentuckiana.  This is probably a good thing.  Nobody should eat that very often.  But it's so good.

After dinner, Daphne fed the ducks and geese with the leftover rolls.  Always fun to feed the birds.

Later that night, we went to the Zesto for one last treat, and I backed my parents' car into a brick wall. I suppose it made sense to start AND end the trip with a car problem.  For symmetry.

Very sad to leave.  I don't like it that my family is so far away.  But it was a nice visit.  Looking forward to the next one.

Road Trip - Day 6

Wednesday started with donuts.  That's a very good way to start.

Grandma gave us a tour of the bakery, and we each picked 2 donuts to try.

As you can see, Daphne didn't like them AT ALL.

In the afternoon, there was time to knit and read.

And in the evening, we went to a little league softball game.  It was cold out, but fun to watch our cousin play ball.  Flat Stanley came along.

Today is our last full day here.  We'll be having lunch at my old elementary school, but that's the only thing we have planned.  I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing day with the family.  Starting..NOW.  Bye!

Road Trip - Day 5

The sun has just set on Day 5 of our Big Spring Break Road Trip of 2014.  I was happy to wake up this morning and find NO snow on the ground.  It was cold, though.  My pedicure is being completely wasted.

We took my grandma out to lunch, and spent the rest of the day hanging out at the house.  I did some knitting and Daphne worked in the garage with Grandpa.

Together, they made a cool little wooden boat that got a test-float at bath time with one of Daphne's old Little People as Captain.  It worked!  I especially love the sail.  It's sort of Moonrise Kingdom-y.

I helped with dinner.  We had some great Indian food.  I made some curried chickpeas, and they were a hit.  I will have to get a copy of the recipe so I can make them at home.

After dinner, Jeff took us to the Zesto, because we really haven't had enough desserts since we've been here.

I had a chocolate malt, as usual.  It was delicious, as usual.

Then we watched the Rangers again, and Chief fell asleep again, which told me it was time for bed.

Tomorrow - the bakery.  Then, the sugar detox begins.
