Bird of the Day

Today's bird of the day is the GUILLEMOT. It is a cool mostly black bird who spends summers on an Alaskan island. Last week, Kev and I visited that island with Alan Alda (aka "Hawk-eye") on Scientific American Frontiers (KERA - TV worth watching). We learned that the guillemot is in trouble because increasingly warmer summers are causing there to be less ice for them to fish under. (The fish they like to eat hang out under ice floating in the water around the island. No ice, no fish). Alaska has a lots of frozen stuff underground that is thawing, and once it thaws will release a lot of carbon into the air and that is bad. So, everyone try to get a hybrid car if you can, and maybe we can help the guillemot. Thanks!

Also, today a popular Dallas radio host was talking about how he regularly litters by throwing Whataburger bags out of his car, and he seemed like he was proud of it. Littering is not going to help the guillemot or the human, so please think twice about doing it. In fact, I challenge everyone who reads this blog to pick up one piece of litter each day and throw it in a trash can.

Tomorrow is the first day of September!

Greggo is sorry, likes Toby Keith, and he supports Bush also.

It would be funny to put a bunch of Whataburger sacks in his yard as a gag.
