Dress Rehearsal

 Dear Blog,

I'm back.  It was a long couple of weeks with almost no internet access.  But I survived.  There is a lot to tell about my time away (including an OWL SIGHTING!), but it will have to wait a bit, because I want to talk about yesterday first.  Yesterday was Daphne's Kindergarten Orientation.  Kev and I took her to meet her teacher and see her classroom.  The kids stayed in the room and did some coloring and stories and stuff, while the parents went to the cafeteria to learn about How to Send Your Kids to Kindergarten.  There is a lot to know about Kindergarten!  More than I ever thought.  We got a huge envelope full of paperwork to read and some forms to fill out.  It was overwhelming.  I didn't make any new friends, and I already have a Nemesis Mommy. I don't know her name, so I am going to call her "Newman." She is a horrible horrible lady.  Things can hopefully only get better.

Meanwhile, Daphne seemed to enjoy it pretty much.  She came home with a picture she colored of a raccoon on a school bus, and a lot of black play-doh under her fingernails.  A sign of good times.

I am not ready for Daphne to go to Kindergarten, but she is.

Tune in Monday, when I have to put her on the school bus and let her go.  Good grief.  There's gonna need to be a lot of chocolate around here to get me through that day.

On a happier note, you may notice Daphne's new pink western boots!  She got them at the Dutchess County Fair in New York on Tuesday.  We spent most of our vacation in New York.  Who would have thought Daphne would get cowgirl boots in New York?  But she did.  And we also had some decent tacos there AND the best barbecue I've had since we left Texas.  Go figure.  But more on the trip later.  Daphne's preschool teacher is coming for a visit this afternoon, and I have a bit more tidying up to do.

Until I can write again, here is a vacation blog preview photo:

Ah.  Serenity now.

So exciting! Can't wait to hear more about Newman as I have a few Newmans here, too. Go Daphne!

Australia is great. But I totally miss decent Mexican food.

BTW -- what did Nemesis Mommy do? (Great pseudonym for her.)
