Puppy Time and Food Experiments

On Saturday, we went down to Manassas for a belated Mother's Day celebration and to meet Chief, the good new puppy.  He is very cute and smart and fluffy.  Daphne especially is very excited.  I think Scout likes having a friend.  Good times.

While we were there, I had a grilled hot dog wrapped in a corn tortilla because it was still Gluten Free Week.  I made it through the whole week without cheating, in spite of many temptations.  It wasn't so bad, and I didn't have an upset stomach the whole week.  However, I don't think I am going to continue to be completely gluten free for my whole life.  I am going to be Gluten-Lite.  The thought of never having ravioli again makes me sad.   I've had some really happy moments involving plates of ravioli.   Pictures of grilled cheese sandwiches I saw in a magazine yesterday made me sad.  The gluten free bagel I had this morning made me REALLY sad.  Holy crap.  It was TERRIBLE.  Food should not make you sad.  So, my plan is to be MOSTLY gluten free, but allow myself a treat now and then. Because I do believe that wheat is bad for people and should not be a big part of one's diet.  Neither should sugar.  Or anything processed and full of weird chemicals.

By the way, yesterday we had a GREAT salad from lettuce and herbs we grew in our garden.  I really like knowing where my food comes from.

Look at how cute that puppy is!

OK.  Off to start my week.  It's going to be a very rainy one around here, but the upside is we won't have to water the garden.

Gluten-free food that's not bread/cakes/cookies aren't bad -- things that inherently don't have gluten (like tortillas).

But it's hard to make gluten-free baked goods. My personal witticism is to call them "glutton free": You eat one, then think "Nah -- that's enough."
