Question

What kinds of cars do President Bush and Laura Bush drive? I would really like to believe that the President means it sincerely when he says it's time to think about oil alternatives, but I think I'm at least gonna need to see him in a Hybrid first. I don't know for sure, but I reckon he's more the Ford F150 type. If he wants a skeptic like me to believe him, maybe he could start by getting a new hydrogen powered presidential limo. All I'm saying is it's a lot of good words, but I'm gonna need to see some action because I'm not really buying any of it. Please, Mr. President, prove me wrong.

His family owns oil wells -- so they probably get a family discount or some-such.

But it **would** be funny to see him in a Honda Civic hybrid or some-such. :)

Are you saying that you can't on the one hand drive a Ford F150 and on the other believe we should look into alternative energy sources? The president lives on a ranch. Do you think he should work the land with a Civic?

Some people just can't win for losing.

Why don't you start driving your bicycle to work? Is it because you choose to live 25 miles from your office, and you must drive your gas car 50 miles per day? I don't think this fact gives me the right to question the sincerity of your concerns about the environment.

There are plenty of fair ways to criticize the president. I think your post is a bit of a cheap shot.

No, it's not a cheap shot. I just need to see some action, that's all. I am very happy that he says he wants to explore alternative energy. I just hope he means it. Maybe he does. And belive me, I would drive a hybrid if I could, and I'd take the train to work if it wasn't dark when I left the office. I do what I can for the environment on a daily basis. But the President is in a great position to set an example, and I hope he chooses to do so.

Actually, I **really** doubt G.W. is out workin' the land: I doubt he's haulin' sick cattle or spools of baling wire and fenceposts in the back of his pickup. Ronald Reagan, maybe, but not G.W.

But, I could be wrong.

I think a Honda Civic hybrid would work just fine on dirt roads. ;)

I'm as liable to believe an oil well-ownin' President who says he's promoting alternative energy sources as I am Bill Gates saying people should explore other operating systems like Mac OS and Linux. Call me an emerald skeptic.

I wouldn't call you an emerald skeptic. Mainly because I don't even know what that means.

I know a lot of people who have changed their views about the importance of alternative energy once they started paying $2.50/gallon for gas. Maybe this also woke up the president. Is it really so foolish to take the president at his word? (And, please, don't bring up any nonsense about him blowing his credibility when he claimed the existence of weapons of mass destruction [which, by the way, did exist]).

Meanwhile, I suppose we should believe the lip service given to the environment from the libs. Does anyone recall the helicopter shot that revealed several Ford Expeditions in the driveway of the dishonarably discharged John F. Kerry? I remember! And what sort of havoc are his wife's ketchup factories wreaking on this atmosphere?

I guess you could argue that Bush was slow in setting alternative fuel sources as a priority. On the other hand, once he says he wants to do something, he has a pattern of at least trying to get it done - for better or for worse. We'll just have to wait and see.

Wow Larry, I would not have guessed that you are either a republican or a republican sympathizer. And by the way, the proper reference is John F’ing Kerry. I am having flashbacks to the election, so I have to change the subject.

GG – I am actually pretty sure that GW does work the land – at least a little. He does have a pretty busy job leading the world an all. I don’t think he is messing with sick cattle (my guess is that would be some kind of unacceptable risk to his health). But he does cut wood and clear brush. And as such, I think he probably “works the land” significantly more than about 90% (or more) of our population.

Tara – why do you say that if you could, you would drive a Hybrid. Why couldn’t you? I must be missing something?

The drive to alternative fuel, while it can be encouraged by the government, it is going to be driven by one and only one thing – the free market. The price of oil is going to continue to skyrocket because the libs will never let any new oil be produced in the US. No new refineries – which means if we did have the oil, we would not be able to process it to increase supply. The other thing that is going to happen is that as oil prices continue to increase, the economy is going to try hard to resist, but it’s going to head south. And when that happens, the companies that might be eager to invest the unbelievably large amounts of money on alternative fuel and vehicles won’t have the capital or the desire to do so. Quite the catch 22.

Rock on Larryfeathers.
I drive a Ford F150, work the land a little, and fully loved your commentary. I am trying to imagine anyone, not just Tara, on their bike, in the 100 degree weather, on Central Expressway, riding 25 miles to work. Hope you have change of clothes.
Did anyone ever find out what The President and Mrs. Bush drive?
