The whole C.S. Lewis "Narnia" series. (MUCH better than the movie, I'm afraid.)

Never Have Your Dog Stuffed -- Alan Alda's autobiography

Gracie -- autobiography of George Burns (you'll probably cry)

Tom's Midnight Garden. It's a young adult level book, but it's still one of my all-time favorites. I forget the author. You'll also cry at the ending (but, it's a happy ending, so they're "good" tears).

The Gift of Magic. Again, I forget the author. Also a YA book, but good. About a 15yo(?) girl with ESP whose parents are getting a divorce; not a cheezy as it sounds. Older sister wants to do ballet -- VERY good, but not formally trained.

Catch-22 is my all-time favorite book. It far surpasses any other book i have read.

I also like the "Wheel of Time" Fantasy series by Robert Jordan. It is young adult, and also probably a bit nerdy....
