GMS RIP

http://kera.org/radio/In_Memory/Glenn_Mitchell/

It is a very sad day, as I have just learned that the great Glenn Mitchell of KERA passed away yesterday. I listened to Glenn's show almost every day, and learned a lot from him and his guests. He will be missed.

Great, now Dallas radio gets even worse. Glenn Mitchell was the only real talk radio host this city had. He had no agenda, no bias and great guests. All the guy did was produce and inspire interesting conversations.

I once appeared on Glenn's show five years ago. We talked about, of all things, prison and the lawyers who work in them. This was the first time I'd spoken on air about something I'd written. Glenn made me feel comfortable, had actually read my two-part story and asked really intellegent questions. I didn't think it would be possible to discuss something for 30 minutes with a live microphone in front of me, but Glenn made that time fly by.

What's sad is that his show was going to go national on XM Radio in February where he would have been absolutely outstanding.

Think how much more interesting talk radio would be if Glenn, instead of Rush, was the gold standard of a sucessful broadcaster.
