I know I was all mad a few weeks ago about the Over-Christmasing in the retail world, but now, I admit, I am sort of getting into the holiday spirit. I took the Peanut to Target the other day and wheeled her around the Christmas tree area and she loved it. Christmas is going to be so much more fun now that we have Daphne. My next project is making her a stocking, if I can find the time and a good idea for one. I still draw the line at giant inflatable yard-art though. It just ain't gonna happen.
I was thinking this morning about my friend Cris' ornament making party. Back when we were all poor and living in apartments without any kids, Cris used to have this party every year where we'd all go over and make ornaments to decorate her tree because she couldn't afford to buy any "real" ones. She'd pull out a big box with a bunch of paper and glitter and scissors and glue and stuff, and we'd go to town. It was so much fun. As the years went on, the tree had accumulated plenty of ornaments, and sadly the party got to be more about eating and drinking than about making stuff. At the last party, our friend Marco caught on fire. He was wearing a loose-fitting shirt, and he backed into the buffet table where there were some tea-light candles, and the next thing you know, there were flames coming from behind him, and someone was yelling "Stop, Drop, and Roll!" It was all very surreal. Marco was OK, but his shirt didn't make it. As far as I know, there weren't any more ornament making parties after that. Kind of a sad end to a fun thing. Oh well.
It's entirely possible that I have already blogged the Marco catching on fire story. If so, sorry about that.

Nope, never heard that story before.
Too bad that was the end of the ornament-making parties. At least it was consistent with the notion of ''It is better to burn out, than to just fade away.''
Bonus points for the Johnny Storm reference in the blog entry title. :) I think everyone needs a catchphrase or battle cry. (I like The Tick's [i.e. ''The Mighty Blue Avenger'']: SPOON!!!)
