Kev is working on a really cool jazz song. What we need is a person who can play drums and a person who can play stand-up bass. And a person who can play trumpet. I don't know if we can pull off a song of this caliber with a cello and a kazoo.

Find any stand-up bass people yet?
He could try emulating one by playing electric bass while fretting on (rather than behind) the frets, plus rolling off the highs (and upper-mids?). I think the characteristic sound is from the lack of sustain and the "boompy-ness."

thanks for the idea! Unfortunately we don't have an electric bass either. I did find a place that will rent an upright bass for $50/month though.
Now that I'm employed again maybe I can somehow justify buying a bass.
In the meantime I've been learning how to play walking bass lines on the "upright cello". With a little signal processing I might get it to sound halfway ok, we'll see.
Next challenge will be figuring out a percussion part with our sad little one-snare-and-cymbal kit. Wish I at least had a hi-hat. Or could play the drums to begin with. Or better yet, had a drummer to help us out.
What the song really needs is some muted trumpet, ala Miles Davis. No way I'm learning the stinkin' trumpet though.
Its a shame, we have many musician friends, but everyone is too busy with their lives to play in a house pants band.
-K.
I'd love to pinch hit in a House Pants band. But you'd have to move to Brisbane, AU.
